The world's main commodities markets were volatile in the second quarter after US President Donald Trump's Liberation Day tariffs in early April and escalating tensions in the Middle East and Europe.
The metals, softs, agricultural and energy markets continued to perform effectively however despite record volumes.

Commodity volatility, policy uncertainty drive surge in global ETD trading, says FIA
Global exchange-traded derivatives trading volumes increased 38% in the first half of 2026 as geopolitical tensions, commodity market volatility and uncertainty over monetary policy drove higher futures and options activity across global exchanges, according to data published by the Futures Industry Association (FIA).
