The Dave Setters Trophy, contested for the fifth time on Friday, involved teams from and was sponsored by the LME, ICe, KRM22, Euronext, StoneX and Verne Global
The London Metal Exchange won on Friday the Dave Setters Cricket Trophy for a second time, beating the team from StoneX in nail-biting final that closed a day’s cricket that raised almost £22,000 for Motor Neurone Disease Research.
The London Metal Exchange team, playing in the shadow of their own office near Moorgate, did a good job of containing StoneX in their first innings before knocking off the runs with a few balls to spare, prompting jubilant scenes among the LME players.
The Dave Setters Trophy, contested for the fifth time on Friday, involved teams from and was sponsored by the LME, ICe, KRM22, Euronext, StoneX and Verne Global.
Last year’s winners ICe failed to repeat last year’s emphatic performance and crashed out of the tournament after the first round, much to the obvious disappointment of the team’s inspiration and leader Steve Hamilton.
All of the team’s showed flashes of promise, including Euronext led by its captain Chris Topple and Verne Global with James Chenery, the data centre’s team that dropped out at the semi-final stage with KRM22. But the LME’s consistently strong batting backed up by tight bowling was ultimately decisive.
The trophy is named after David Setters, the popular derivatives expert who has in recent years dedicated himself to raising money to fund research into MND after discovering he has the disease.
Dave has been tireless in raising awareness about MND and in supporting efforts that lead to a cure and better care for people living with MND. He established City Against MND and works closely with the MND Association. Dave is also a Founding Trustee of Futures for Kids, the industry's charity.
Dave’s entire career has been spent in the City where he has been a long time champion of the Futures & Options markets. He is passionate about sport playing rugby at school and University before playing football for Old Reigatians AFC until his early 50s. His other passion, aside from Manchester United, is cricket.
This year’s cash takes the total raised for the Motor Neurone Disease Association to about £147,000.
