Britannia Global Markets has partnered with local charity the East London Business Alliance to offer a group of young people vital experience of working in a City brokerage house.
Britannia Global Markets hosted earlier this month seven young people in its London office, putting them through a programme of presentations and insights into how City firms like Britannia work
Speaking near the end of the week’s programme, Layla Cooper (pictured front right) said: “I am a graduate in biomedical science with a growing interest in brokerage. As well as the social side to it, I find trading and particularly electronic trading fascinating because it responds immediately to real-world events.”

“If you look recently at Trump’s tariff on copper, there was an instant market reaction and that immediacy interests me.”
Established in 1989, ELBA seeks to build connections between businesses like Britannia and the local communities, helping over 300 Londoners find work and delivering 12,000 business volunteers to local community projects in the past year alone.
The charity’s Education and Employment programmes work closely with young people and job-seekers, giving them the skills, contacts and confidence to succeed in the current job market.
ELBA, which started in Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets, has since expanded its reach to cover ten London boroughs including Barking, Camden, Dagenham, Greenwich, Haringey, Islington and Waltham Forest.
As well as Britannia, ELBA lists among its 85+ corporate partners Bank of America, Barclays, Citadel, Citigroup, Macquarie, Morgan Stanley, Natwest, Societe Generale, Standard Chartered and UBS.
