The charity fun run has raised more than double last year so far… but there is still time to race and/or donate
The Futures for Kids (FFK) 10k fun run has already raised more than double in its second year, attracting more runners and a “pusher” to take part in tomorrow’s charity event.
Over 200 runners are set to participate in the second FFK 10k fun run tomorrow (June 13) at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.
This is double the number of runners that took part in the inaugural event last May, with more than 100 participants completing the course, raising more than £20,000.
The charity event has raised around £53k so far this year, but there is still time to donate.
Founder trustee Patrick Thornton-Smith will tackle the upcoming “fun run” somewhat uniquely as he instead pushes wheelchair bound Dave Setters round the course.
In honour of fellow-FFK trustee Bernie Connolly, who sadly passed away last summer, FFK is introducing the Bernadette (Bernie) Connolly Challenge Cup this year.
Trophies will be presented by Team GB Olympic Gold medallist Christine Ohuruogu.
Last year’s race was won by OSTC’s COO Ian Firla, completing the 10km course in 37:12 minutes. Ellie Moffatt from Mazars won the women’s race with a time of 40:16.
The 5km race was won by Sam Harry of JDX with his colleague Alexa Carter winning the women’s race with times of 20:16 and 22:12 respectively.
The fun run took place for the first time last year instead of the annual Walk-to-Work to mark the 10th anniversary of FFK, which raises money to provide better lives for children across the globe.
This year’s race is sponsored by Ion, RJ O’brien, GH Financials, INTL FCStone, Duco, TT, KRM22, Kite, OSTC, Illuminate, Vela, TP Icap, FIA, Stellar, East Lodge Capital, Euronext and Cult Wines.
