Gary Pettit, the former chief executive of Sigma Broking and ED&F Man Capital Markets, is joining Marex in January, according to sources.
Pettit, who left Sigma in June, is joining the London-based and New York-listed Marex in January as global head of rates.
A spokesperson for Marex confirmed the appointment.
The hire is a boost for Marex which said last week it is looking to move aggressively into new markets such as crypto and prediction contracts to maintain its recent solid growth.
Pettit is one of the most experienced brokers in London, having served most recently as chief executive officer of Sigma Broking for nearly two years.
He joined Sigma in early 2024 just over one year after he left ED&F Man Capital markets where he was UK chief executive officer and led the sale of that business to Marex.
Pettit joined ED&F in early 2015 as commercial director before being promoted to UK chief executive in September 2020.
Before ED&F, Pettit was for three years ICAP’s global head of financial futures and options until his departure in late 2014.
Prior to ICAP, Pettit spent over 12 years at MF Global in various futures and options brokerage roles before rising to be that firm’s global head of financial futures and options.
Pettit also worked as a futures broker at Credit Agricole, on the Liffe floor for Refco and as a currency broker at Tullett & Tokyo, now TP ICAP.
Pettit is also an active and vocal ambassador for Prostate Cancer UK, having survived that cancer himself more than ten years ago.
