ABN Amro and Fortis merge

ABN Amro and Fortis Bank Nederland legally merged on July 1 and are now operating as a single bank, ABN Amro Bank.

They will now start integrating more of their activities. From July 1, they have been able to share client information and the proposed management appointments officially took effect.

The Fortis Nederland name will disappear.

Gerrit Zalm, ABN Amro’s chairman, said in a statement: “This is a process in which happiness, uncertainty and sadness will go hand in hand.”
