Bender was a permanent secretary (the highest grade in the UK civil service) for nearly 10 years, most recently at the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform. He has also worked at the Department for Trade and Industry and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
After his appointment in 2003, Brydon presided over the LME’s capital restructuring and its first dividend payment.
Brydon said: “It has been a privilege to have presided over the successful evolution of the LME in the last few years. I am particularly pleased that the LME was able to navigate through the recent financial crisis without any difficulty and with a significant increase in volumes traded. It has an excellent management team and I am confident of its continued success.”
