The CME and Deutsche Boerse's Eurex have launched similar models this year
European Commodity Clearing (ECC) has
become the fourth major central counterparty to offer a direct
clearing model, with the launch of its Direct Clearing
According to the ECC, the new model will
allow power trading participants to have direct access to
clearing and trading of spot markets, independent of a clearing
"The new Direct Clearing Participant Model
will provide opportunities for more market participants to
access our Day-Ahead and Intraday markets. This new service is
especially beneficial for smaller members who, together, are
significant contributors to market liquidity," Derek Abernethy,
