Panellists at FOW's post trade event disagree on cross-margining applications
Portfolio margining has the potential to
deliver new efficiencies to a range of clients but a panel of
experts questioned how relevant it is for asset managers.
Gaspard Bonin, deputy global head of
derivatives execution and clearing at BNP Paribas
said: "There has been and
still is significant interest in cross-margining, growing
together with collateralisation constraints. Whereas the
buy-side can today benefit from cross-margining through
brokers, central counterparty-level cross-margining
'at-the-source’ will bring additional
optimisation, and is the only way for sell-side to take
advantage of portfolio offsets."
