CME Europe CEO gave the keynote address at FOW Trading Middle East
CME Group, the
world's largest futures exchange, said on Thursday it expects
to play a greater role in the continued growth of the Middle
Eastern futures markets and hinted at closer ties with local
exchanges before calling for a resolution to the clearing
impasse between the US and Europe.
Cees Vermaas, the
chief executive of CME Europe, told the FOW Trading Middle East
conference in Dubai on Thursday energy trading in the Middle
East has been up over a half this year while FX volumes have
more than doubled on 2014.
"We see the potential
for Gulf activity to grow much faster than more mature markets
in the West. We think there’s a need for more
education and investor marketing in explaining the
opportunities in trading rather than purely arbing. We see
particular growth potential in FX and metals."
