Asian exchange wants to enable Asian clients to better access LME products
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing has
announced a plan to forge a metal trading link between London
and Hong Kong, marking the first formal futures trading
connection between Europe and Asia.
HKEx said on Wednesday it plans to build a
trading link between its subsidiaries the London Metal Exchange
and the Hong Kong Futures Exchange and a parallel clearing link
between LME Clear and HKFE Clearing Corporation to be known as
"London-Hong Kong Connect".
The exchange said the link is subject to
regulatory approval from the relevant UK, European and Hong
Kong authorities and no formal agreement had been agreed,
rather the various parties will discuss the products that might
trade on the link and work to determine the best trading and
