Li said Connect offers speedier route to Chinese market liberalisation
Charles Li, chief
executive of Hong Kong Exchange (HKEx), said the Shanghai-Hong
Kong Stock Connect offers a speedier route to Chinese market
liberalisation than schemes that allow mainland and overseas
investors direct access in each others' markets.
Commenting in a blog
released on Monday, Li said while schemes such as the Qualified
Domestic Individual Investor (QDII) and the Qualified Foreign
Institutional Investor (QFII) programs are the "ultimate model
of opening without compromising China's regulatory control,"
they will take some time to reach scale.
