Under Mifid II, desks will have more responsibility for market surveillance
desks will be made responsible for surveillance of their own
trading activities following the introduction of
Mifid II in 2017, according to US exchange Nasdaq.
market surveillance division told press on Tuesday that given
the difficulty of identifying manipulation in a market
dominated by high frequency trading, European regulators were
shifting responsibility to those that understood the algorithms
best, namely execution desks.
