Innovative new commodity launch from ICE Singapore could be the next big thing in Asia
Bemoaning a lack of innovation by exchanges is an industry
sport. This is somewhat unfair as exchanges do innovate and
more often than not the market doesn’t support
them when they do.
News today that the IntercontinentalExchange will launch
five contracts on March 17 at the launch of its Singapore
futures market brings a huge innovation in the market and one
that its rivals will no doubt seek to mimic.
On the face of it the five contracts bring little new. A
mini Brent crude contract, (yet another) Asian gold contract,
an RMB future and two Chinese benchmarked commodity
