landed in Europe some 35 years ago, with five staff in a small
office a gold bar’s throw from the Old Lady of
The Merc extended its trading system Globex to European
clients in 1992 and opened its London-based telecoms hub in
2002. More recently the US exchange group launched, in 2011,
CME Europe Clearing.
These are noteworthy achievements but arguably the CME only
really arrives in Europe on Sunday night when CME Europe
finally goes live, nearly two years after the venture was first
