as Phupinder Gill, the new chief executive at the CME Group.

At the height of the fraught negotiations over the merger
between the Chicago Board of Trade and the CME in 2007, the
board of the CME had reached a deadlock. A key shareholder in
the CBOT was holding out demanding a higher price. The deal
hung in the balance.
