Thomas Lewis has been appointed CEO of the Green Exchange
– the carbon bourse owned by a consortium of financial
and environmental institutions, including CME Group.
Technically, he is CEO of Green Exchange Holdings, the
venture’s parent consortium.
Lewis is charged with guiding the exchange through its
application for the status of a designated contract market from
the CFTC, as well as its quest for recognition from overseas
As CEO of Ameritrade, Lewis oversaw the development of an
online equity trading platform for retail investors. He also
headed Automated Power Exchange, a renewable energy and
greenhouse gases market.
Lewis has also been executive in residence and assistant
professor of environmental finance at the Carey Business School
of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, and a director of
New York-based environmental and energy services firm,
