Choice of clearing models should be made available
Regulators should not determine which clearing model is used by
the industry because different markets each have different
clearing needs and should be assessed on an individual basis,
panellists at FOWs 18th annual London Derivatives Week
As the debate over vertical versus horizontal silo structures
rages on, speakers representing CME Group, LCH Clearnet and
Options Clearing Council (OCC) agreed that different markets
should be allowed different systems.
It is important that the industry as a whole be allowed
to move towards a model that suits the marketplace instead of
being determined by regulators, said Kim Taylor, head of
clearing at CME Group.
