At a press luncheon in Chicago on November 28, officials
from Eurex and International Securities Exchange (ISE)
expressed confidence that the transaction, under which Eurex
would acquire the ISE, will close in
December, 2007. The transaction is pending approval from the US
Securities Exchange Commission. ISE shareholders approved the
transaction which values ISE at around $2.8 bn in July.
Independent of the filing that relates to a combination with
ISE, Eurex is actively involved in the current discussions
about mutual recognition at the SEC. This would allow for
additional Eurex products to be traded directly from Eurex
members and their clients in the US, namely equity and equity
index options products like options on the DAX index
options on the Dow Jones EURO STOXX 50 Index. Eurex currently
has around 70 direct exchange members in the US and has been
active in this market since the mid nineties.
Eurex's inflation linked futures, which will be launched
early next year, will be available for trading from the
Heike Eckert is executive vice
president and director of Eurex. She has been heading the North
American operations for Eurex since the beginning of 2007.
