Liffe and CME Group have clashed over the importance of Asian
hubs, as the future of trading hubs drew differing opinions
from the industry.
Speaking at FOWs 14th annual Derivatives World in
Singapore, Garry Jones, executive director derivatives business
development and strategy at Liffe stressed that exchange feels
the concept of Asian hubs, to be outdated. The complex of
a hub is somewhat overstated. Today, because technology is
interchangeable our clients have access to the markets through
a number of different methods, Jones said. We found
that the idea of an Asian hub is one that is a little outdated
as there are many alternatives to access the market, . He
added that Liffe has instead focused its efforts on
co-location, which the exchange will launch as part of its
updated Version 10 Connect on 12 November (see FO Week
