NYSE Arca, which launched a new options trading platform in
August, has regained some marketshare and said it is ready to
do battle on price in the increasingly competitive options
In August, NYSE Arca switched to a new options trading
platform and grabbed a 9.6% marketshare and 9.4% in September,
ending a string of reductions in marketshare over the past
year. NYSE Arca's marketshare plummeted from 11.4% in January
to a low of 8% in June before rebounding slightly to 8.7% in
July using its previous PCX Plus platform, according to figures
from Options Clearing Corporation.
"It's awfully early to have a definitive statement, but we
have seen a general bottoming out," said Jon Werts, vice
president of derivative products and newly appointed head of
options at Nyse Arca. "Now that we're on the new system, we are
seeing clients coming back to try the new system out which
haven't done so for a long time."
