A group of Norwegian banks have announced the decision to
form a new dedicated salmon marketplace, Fish Pool, expected to
launch on 27 April and to be based in Bergen, Norway.
The banks were named as DnB NOR, Nordea and Sparebanken
Vest, GC Rieber and Bergen Energi.
Fish Pool MD Søren Martens told FO Week that
the exchange was being set up to provide more stability in
earnings to both salmon farmers and processors. The marketplace
would initially provide forward contracts, with futures
contracts planned following the establishment of clearing on
the exchange. Martens anticipated that this would be in place
in six months time.
