Icap scored a victory last week in the patent suit filed
against its subsidiary BrokerTec by rival Cantor Fitzgerald. In
New York, a judge ruled that BrokerTec did not infringe on a
patent held by Cantor's subsidiary Espeed.
The case is being appealed by Espeed. However, the initial
victory has been rated a major win for Icap by many
Icap officials declined to comment on the case because a
second Espeed patent case is continuing against anther Icap
subsidiary, Garban. That case will be heard in part by the
judge, but other parts will be heard by a jury.
