A clutch of conference tales this week, starting with
an extraordinary case of mistaken identity. CBoT's Bernie Dan
told delegates at FOW's Derivatives and Securities World in
Singapore about the first time he visited the country - on the
day the Barings scandal blew up - only to be repeatedly
mistaken for the fugitive Nick Leeson. Which makes me wonder
whether Ewan McGregor (who played Leeson in the 1999 film
Rogue Trader) could be cast as Dan in CBoT: The
Movie. I imagine there would be a clever nod to
Trainspotting as Ewan/Bernie exhorted the CBoT board
(played by Brian Dennehy, Brian Blessed and Gary Busey) to
"choose Liffe". Or maybe Bernie could step into the breach if
McGregor failed to show up for the filming of Star Wars
Episode Three. "Strength. Integrity. Transparency. This is
the Jedi way."
