Give it away now
As promised last week, I would like to introduce
Grindlay's official roundup of the range of freebies available
at the sensational FOW exhibition at international derivatives
week in London. Firstly, I am disappointed to report that the
standard of pens on offer was distinctly below par. Aside from
the ever-reliable Super Derivatives effort and a fairly nice
propelling pencil from Cinnober (who also recently sent us, for
no obvious reason, a Swedish whodunnit) it was wall to wall
biro. That gets a "must try harder" from me. Freebies were
generally better, though I can't really give the award to the
full size ice hockey stick I saw one excitable young colleague
carrying away from the Montréal Exchange stand, as I
understand that some bribery may have been involved. Finex had
a nice bag connected in some way with golf, but as I don't
understand the game (you spend the first three hours walking
away from the bar for goodness' sake) that's out too. Ditto the
Tokyo Grain Exchange picnic wine cooler (they ran out too
early, and I need capacity for significantly more than a single
bottle, even if it's just while my cab waits at traffic
lights). So, by process of elimination, the award goes to CME's
very clever beach mat and chess set combo, which will no doubt
be very handy for the surf dude/grandmaster in any family.
