Peter Richards, the executive director of IG Group's
Australian business has won an out of court settlement and an
apology from the New South Wales state government.
Richards, who owns a 16% stake in IG Australia, had sued the
government for defamation arising from statements made by a
spokesman for the NSW Minister for Gaming and Racing in 2002.
The spokesman had briefed a reporter about the activities of IG
Australia and asserted that IG had contravened NSW gaming laws
and had acted illegally, when it had not.
