A US regulatory investigation of cattle trading during the
BSE scare late last year is expected to be completed by the end
of the summer, Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)
chairman Jim Newsome told Congress on 13 May.
The investigation is looking at whether someone leaked
information about the government's announcement of the mad cow
disease case prior to the 23 December 2003 trading day. The US
Justice Department has joined CFTC in the investigation. A
Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) spokesperson said the
exchange is cooperating with authorities but had no further
