Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) took another step toward
offering a fully electronic options platform last week with the
purchase of Liquidity Direct, a complex options software
The deal, for which no financial details were disclosed,
helps advance CME's goal of offering an options trading
facility, said ceo CME Craig Donohue. CME has slowly been
assembling the pieces needed to accomplish this with in house
development and past technology purchases. He said CME plans to
launch the new options system in the second half of the year
and will likely begin with Eurodollar options and other current
