As widely expected 2003 was a successful year for the
world's major futures and options exchanges. Eurex once again
led the way, becoming the first exchange ever to trade more
than one billion contracts in a single year. The exchange
finished the year with 1.014bn contracts, some 27% higher than
December volume for the exchange reached 66m, a rise of 22%
on the same month in 2002.
While total year volume at Euronext Liffe was down on the
previous year, from 697m to 695m, the exchange maintained that
its position as the world's second largest derivatives exchange
by volume and value remained.
