After years of being the dominant subject at FIA's
annual gathering in Chicago, single stock futures got relegated
to a Friday morning panel this year in order to make way for
this year's main event, the next round in the Eurex/CBoT/CME
title fight. The Trading Places panel, first thing on
Wednesday, started off a little like a wedding. At the top
table were Bernie Dan, Rudi Ferscha, Craig Donohue and Hugh
Freedberg. The audience filed in, Chicagoans on the left,
Europeans on the right. Then they kept on filing in, until all
the seats and standing room were taken - no sooner had
moderator Joe Murphy quipped about it being a fire hazard than
he had to interrupt the discussion while what turned out to be
a genuine fire code violation was dealt with. Like all good
weddings, there were some slightly dull speeches - each exec
was given a few minutes to wax rhapsodic about their own
exchange - which soon gave way to a good old fashioned
