No sooner had Eurex announced it was setting up shop
in the back yard of Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) and Chicago
Mercantile Exchange (CME) than the sparks started flying. Craig
Donohue, who will assume the CME's ceo position at year-end,
hinted to an audience at an FOW conference in Singapore that
the Eurex announcement was simply an expensive public relations
and marketing event. Funny he should say that, when four
staffers from CME's PR firm - Edelman - tuned into the Eurex
press conference, according to sources close to Eurex. Let's
see, what is the CME's bill per hour for six staffers from
Edelman listening in on a 1 ½-hour press conference?
Coincidentally, Edelman also acts as PR to Espeed, so maybe the
two split the bill.
