New York Board of Trade (Nybot) last week celebrated its
return to Manhattan, almost two years after the exchange's
World Trade Centre site was destroyed in the terrorist attacks
of 11 September. Nybot played host to former Mayor of New York
City Rudy Giuliani, CFTC Chairman Jim Newsome and others at its
new facilities in the New York Mercantile Exchange building.
Giuliani praised the exchange for having the foresight to open
a backup facility on Long Island following the 1993 World Trade
Centre bombing. "Seeing this historic New York institution
resume trading within a week of the attacks was another
affirmation of the American resilience and courage. And now,
almost two years later, Nybot has moved back downtown, better
than ever, a true testament to that American spirit that never
