The merger between Sweden's OM and the Finnish market HEX,
announced last week, could pave the way for a range of new
index products, according to OM founder and chairman of the
board Olof Stenhammar.
Speaking to FO Week, Stenhammar said the exchange
was considering introducing new index derivatives for forestry
and telecommunication stocks but wanted to get the merger out
of the way first.
"We can look at sector products," he said. "The telecom
sector is a major sector with Nokia and Ericsson. Forestry
products might also be considered. Both industry sectors are
strong players in both countries, we will see what
happens? That's what we will be looking into but, first of all,
we want to get the merger in place."
