Fears that a legal battle with New York Mercantile Exchange
(Nymex) could spell the end for IntercontinentalExchange (ICE)
could lead to the sale of ICE to Nymex, industry sources told
Nymex is suing ICE, alleging that its electronic competitor
has broken copyright laws by using Nymex's settlement prices
(see FO Week Vol 7 No 47). Observers noted that if the court
rules that ICE cannot use the Nymex settlement prices for
natural gas and oil futures, ICE would lose the bulk of its
business in these markets.
