The total volume of exchange-traded derivatives last year
reached 6.2 billion contracts, according to figures published
in the latest edition of FOW's World Clearing Houses (WCH), up
from 4.4bn in 2001.
WCH, which has historically focused on derivatives clearing
houses, now also covers the broader role of central
counterparties (CCPs) for equities, but the annual publication
of cleared volume on futures and options remains an interesting
indication of business trends.
