Exchange moves to stave-off potential threat
Chicago Board of Trade is looking to establish an exclusive
contract with Board of Trade Clearing Corporation (BoTCC) that
would prevent them from clearing potential or existing
competitors to the Chicago exchange, senior industry sources at
last week's futures conference in Boca Raton have told FO
The sources suggested that, with Eurex still looking at its
options for launching a US exchange, CBoT could be vulnerable
if an acquisition by Eurex, for example of BrokerTec Futures
Exchange (BTEx), provided it with access to BoTCC's services.
While Eurex has yet to make a decision on which route it is
likely to take in the US (see page 3), BTEx has been cited by
observers as a potential solution to its bid to set up in the
US in the most efficient way.
