Time once again to pack your sun cream, golf clubs and Alka Seltzer and head down to Florida for some seriously hard work. Yes, Boca - the futures industry equivalent of spring break (or an arms bazaar, if Warren Buffet is to be believed) - is upon us.
Attendees may feel more inclined this year than on some
occasions in the past to drag themselves indoors for the
conference activity. Thursday morning's Market Migration panel
will probably be well attended, the imminent migration of Eurex
to the US being the likely focus of attention. It remains to be
seen whether Rudi Ferscha will have a significant announcement
ready, but many delegates will be keen to hear something
material on this much speculated about endeavour.
Whatever the outcome on the business front, you can bet
Eurex will be showing off its bulging coffers with some stellar
entertainment at its annual Late Night. Previous acts to have
graced the stage at these events include the Four Tops, Ray
Charles and a personal favourite of mine last year, Mr Tony
Bennett. This year, the Eurex crew are remaining tight-lipped
about the talent they have lined up - one only hopes Rudi is
not planning personally to wow the crowd with a musical
interpretation of his US plans, rendering it necessary to
rename the event the Eurex Long Night. (Either way, those
wanting to take part in the following morning's "Fun Run/Walk"
will have their work cut out, starting as it does at 7.00am,
thereby stretching the definition of fun to breaking
