Uncertainty over the long-term viability of SFE's bond
futures contracts have diminished after the country's Treasurer
Peter Costello indicated the government would not likely wind
down the bond markets.
Late last year, the Australian government said it might use
surpluses from asset sales to buy back government bonds to a
level that would make the bond and bond futures markets
illiquid (see FO Week vol 7 no 46).
