CFTC's Newsome opposes more legislation
US senators have mounted a renewed campaign to have futures
regulators crack dow on the OTC energy markets.
A Long-time proponent of increased regulation of OTC
markets, Senator Dianne Feinstein, along with Senators Tom
Harkin, Peter Fitzgerald and others, lent support last week to
proposed legislation designed to subject online energy and
mineral exchanges to similar oversight requirements as
Meanwhile, Feinstein wrote to Commodity Futures Trading
Commission (CFTC) chairman Jim Newsome, asking him "to work
with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to launch
an investigation to determine if there has been manipulation in
natural gas trading".
